Famed Japanese animator and filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki is very strict about allowing other companies or individuals to edit his films. Harvey Weinstein, the co-founder of Miramax Films, was set to edit the film “Princess Mononoke” for distribution in the United States in that late 1990’s. However, to emphasize Mr. Miyazaki’s stance on editing and cutting the film, his producer sent Mr. Weinstein a samurai sword with the note “No cuts” ( The Guardian).
